Bol is old settlement, that existed in the beginning of New Era, probably even before.
Island Brač was settled in the Younger Stone Age (Kopacina cave in Donji Humac).
Roman had their settlement in the Bol, which proves the “piscina” - water pool in the area of the Zlatni rat beach.
Also in that area coins, graves and early Christian sarcophagus were found (today in the Museum of Dominican monastery in Bol).
Whole island changed its rulers often from 8th centuty to the 20th :Franks, Croatian state, Byzantium,
Croatian-Hungarian state, Omis pirates, Venice, Bosnian king Tvrtko I., Dubrovnik, Napoleon's France, Russians,
Austrians. All of them left a specific sign in the life of the Bol and the island.
Testimony of the interwined cultures and ethnic groups of Brač You will find in the village Škrip.
We reccommend you to visit village of Škrip ( Museum) as well as the Dominican monastery in Bol.
