History of Brac Croatia
Island Brač was settled in the Younger Stone Age and during the centuries changed many sovereign.
We reccomend You to visit some interesting sites on the island of Brac:
- Kopačina Cave – provides a insight into the prehistory of the island Brač. It is situated near Donji Humac village, some 20 minutes walking. 12 meters long cave give us traces of prehistoric man on the island. There were found thousands bones of the wild animals as well as the knives, arrows and drills that belong to the paleolitic and mesolithic periods.
Bronze age ceramic fragments were also found.
- Testimony of the interwined cultures and ethnic groups of Brač You will find in the Village Škrip- there is Illyrian cairns built after the Greek manner ( today part of the Museum of the Island). But during the centuries fortification function had been forgotten, over them was built the magnificent Roman mausoleum ( 3rd c) . Many centuries after that, a
Croatian fort with loop-holes near the top was built, which today houses the island's collection of its resistance history.
- Lovrečina is archeological site located near Postira with the remains of Roman estate and also early Christian discoveries.
Just a few meters away is located popular sandy beach Lovrečina.
- Hermitage of Blaca is unique monument on the Croatian coast. It was hermitage of the Glagilitic Order ( Glagoljica – Croatian ancient alphabet) raised on the steep cliff – today is also Museum.
- Zmajeva spilja ( The Dragon's cave) is located near village of Murvica, 7 kilometers from Bol. It is called because of the relief of Dragon in it.
